Client Contract

My contract with you looks like this:

Marianne Taylor – Person Centred Counsellor and Psychotherapist

Client Contract

About me

I am a registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (www.bacp.co.uk ).  I work to their BACP Framework for the counselling profession which is aimed at assuring good practice.  I take regular supervision and undertake regular continued professional development (CPD).

My counselling method is called Humanistic Integrative, this means that my approach is to consider you as a whole person and I use a person-centred approach to integrate a range of useful methods from other modalities, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and creativity.

About you

You will undertake to attend as agreed between us and to pay for each session in advance.  You also agree to the missed or cancelled policy outlined below.

You undertake not to use alcohol or drugs (other than prescribed by a medical professional) before or during your counselling session.

If we consider that CBT would be a helpful approach you agree to carry out arranged homework tasks.

About us

Our first session will be a ‘getting to know you’ session where we will discuss what your expectations are and decide together if I am the right person for you.  This is also an opportunity for you to ask me any questions.

Counselling sessions will take place face to face, on the telephone or using Zoom.

I will take your personal details, (age, address …) including some information about your background and family.  This will include health and wellbeing questions along with your GP practice details and named emergency contact.

Once we start working together we will have regular reviews.  This is to ensure we are making progress or to review objectives.

Please tell me if I do anything you are not happy with, or if you are pleased with the progress we are making.

Confidentiality

I aim to provide a safe and confidential space.  There are some exceptions to confidentiality that I have made you aware of and they include the violation of the following Acts:

  • Any abuse of a minor in accordance with the Children’s Act 1989/2004 (and any amendments)
  • The terrorism Act 2006
  • The drug trafficking Act 1994
  • and any subsequent legislation
  • or if you are at risk of self-harm or there is a risk of harm to others

Under some circumstances it may be appropriate to hold a session by telephone, or mobile.  As with internet meetings, it is your responsibility to ensure you are in a safe and confidential space when we meet this way.  Any telephone numbers shared and marked ‘confidential’ will be removed from your telephone memory once we have completed our telephone sessions and not provided to third parties without good reason.  There will be no recording of sessions without expressed permission from both parties and all listening devices (eg: Alexa, Siri etc) should be turned off.

Data Protection

I will hold your personal and confidential information in a way described by the Data Protection Act and the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR).  You may request to see any notes I make about our sessions together.  When I undertake supervision, your details are not shared, but code numbers/letters are used.

I am also registered with the Information Commissioners Offices (www.ICO.org.uk ) because I keep some electronic records (telephone number, contract etc).
